The Curriculum

All schools follow the National Curriculum, introduced to pupils from the age of five. At East Harptree School, some areas of the curriculum are taught through a cross-curricular topic-based approach. This means that some of the work your child undertakes each term may be linked to a topic e.g. Clothes. Some of the English, Maths, Science and Technology, Humanities, Art, Music, RE and PE activities will arise from this topic. Other areas of study focus on a particular subject e.g. "The Tudors",  essentially a history topic. We have a 2 year planning cycle to ensure all children can cover the work required by the National Curriculum. English and Mathematics are also taught as discrete subjects to ensure children are confident in these basic skills. There is an equally firm emphasis on the basic skills of reading, writing and speaking and listening. We see the ability to read with understanding and pleasure as the key to further knowledge.

Further information on the Curriculum can be found in the school prospectus which is available on request.
